Family Fun: Orange County Great Park Sports Park

Orange County Great Park Sports Park in Irvine just unveiled Phase 1 of their multi-phase Sports Park project. The Grand Opening took place this past Saturday, August 5th. The new area of the Great Park features six soccer fields (plus a soccer stadium), 25 tennis courts, five sand volleyball courts, and a new Children’s Play Area.

SOCCER

The Sports Park Soccer Stadium and fields are drawing players of all ages for team practices and games, ranging from local recreational games to international tournaments and professional team games.

The Champion Soccer Stadium features seating for 2,500 spectators, locker rooms and training facilities, a box office, concession areas, an upper-level viewing deck, city athletics offices, berm seating areas, and a regulation soccer field.

The six lighted grass fields are each 120 yards by 75 yards. They include benches for coaches and players, a spectator viewing area, and 20-foot safety nets behind each goal.

TENNIS

The amenities for tennis include a Tennis Center with a pro shop and concession stand, along with 25 tennis courts. These courts offer space for: kids camps and lessons, adult team workouts, recreational programs, the Brymer Lewis Tennis Academy, and leagues, match play, and championship tournaments. Drop-in courts will also be available.

The Tennis Complex includes a championship court with seating for 140 spectators and an additional 24 lighted tennis courts. The Tennis Center is adjacent to the 24 courts and includes the pro shop, concession area, restrooms, and city athletics offices.

VOLLEYBALL

The five sand volleyball courts are accessible through City programs and drop-in use. The Volleyball courts include a championship court with seating for 164 spectators, and the four additional lighted sand courts.

PLAYGROUND

The Children’s Play Area features slides, swings, jungle gyms, ropes, climbing areas, and more — all within walking distance of the Sports Complex’s volleyball courts, Tennis Center, soccer fields, and Championship Soccer Stadium. Families visiting the Sports Park for tournaments or just enjoying the great park are welcome to discover and explore the interactive space.

This is only the beginning of their multi-phase Sports Park project, as it is the first 53 acres of what will become the 194-acre Sports Park. Phase two of the Great Park Sports Park is expected to open later this year, bringing amenities for basketball, baseball, and softball. At completion, the Sports Park will cover 194 acres at the heart of the Orange County Great Park.
